Patric Niederhauser to line up with Aust Motorsport in ADAC GT Masters

Patric Niederhauser is starting a new chapter in his motor racing career. The Swiss driver will line up for Aust Motorsport in the ADAC GT Masters during the 2017 season. Niederhauser will share an Audi R8 LMS with rookie Dennis Marschall. Based in north-west Germany, Aust Motorsport joined the ADAC GT Masters in 2016 after previously making a name for themselves in Porsche one-make cup competitions.
Niederhauser made his debut last year in the hard-fought Super Sports Car League, driving a Lamborghini Huracán GT3. The 25-year-old will now race the 585-bhp Audi R8 LMS. The successor to the R8 LMS ultra was first used by several teams in the ADAC GT Masters in 2016 and ultimately won both drivers’ and team championships.
The young Swiss talent now has seven race weeks on Formula 1 tracks like the Red Bull Ring, the Nürburgring and the Hockenheimring ahead of him, but the Motorsport Festival at the Lausitzring will be the absolute highlight of the season when the ADAC GT Masters joins forces with the DTM for its second race weekend (19th - 21st May 2017). In 2016, this joint meeting of Germany’s two biggest German racing series drew more than 67,500 enthusiastic spectators to the circuit. During 2017, SPORT1 will again broadcast all ADAC GT Masters races live on TV and as a livestream at SPORT1.de.

Three questions for Patric Niederhauser

You are starting a new and exciting chapter with Aust Motorsport. How did that come about?
I’m really looking forward to this new challenge in the ADAC GT Masters with Aust Motorsport. We were just competitors in 2016, now we’re a team. Even during initial testing, the chemistry was perfect. I’m pleased that everything has now been finalised and am sure that we will grow to become a strong unit during the season. It was a pretty tough winter for me, tinged with uncertainty. I was in contact with Lamborghini about working together with them in the future but had to await their decision before I could deal with other teams. I’ll now be lining up with Aust Motorsport and see it as a kind of fresh start after the bad luck that plagued us last year.

What are your aims with your new team in the ADAC GT Masters?
I’m not afraid in general to first set myself big goals and then work myself hard. My goal is to secure podiums and lots of points. The entire team structure at Aust Motorsport is filled with highly motivated and capable people, which makes me feel that good results are possible. Also, I have the Audi R8 LMS at my disposal which is a very powerful car.

You have Dennis Marschall, a rookie, as a team-mate, so at the moment, it looks like you will be the ‘old-hand’ in the car. Does that change anything for you?
My motto remains the same, to always put the pedal to the metal and go for the max. It’s great to share the car with a quick team-mate. I’ve only ever heard good things about Dennis. He did well in the Audi Sport TT Cup, so I hope we can give each other an extra boost of motivation and really push ourselves.
